Why Peer Counselors
Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, Peer Counselors is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking support. Peer Counselors provides Anonymous Peer Listeners with long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers,
re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face.
What is a Peer Counselor?
A Peer Counselor (also called Peer Support Specialist or Peer Recovery Specialist) will work with both behavioral and primary care providers to deliver services that are geared toward helping clients in the development of healthy life choices.
How is peer support different from therapy?
Unlike traditional therapy, where patience (with it, time) is required to overcome and embrace the narrative of one-sidedness, peer support opens the door to identifying and understanding our own emotions, thoughts, and feelings through the narrative of togetherness.
Why do I want to be a peer counselor?
Working in peer support is an especially rewarding experience. You get to share the tools, skills, and information you have learned to transform your own life with individuals going through similar struggles.
